The poet in a huge demonstration and and a poetic evening in Beheira Governorate January 16, 2009

Poet Abdul Rahmãn Yusuf joined the people of Housh Eissa city in (Beheira) governorate last Friday, January 16, 2009 in a huge march of about 10,000 citizens.

The protesters marched through the streets of Housh Eissa repeating chants condemning the Israeli brutal aggression against Gaza and denouncing Arab silence. 

Abdul Rahmãn’s voice joined the angry crowds with his poem “Kullunã Taht Al Hisãr” (We’re All Under the Siege); everyone listened with great attention. 

According to the poet, that open assembly and the active participation in that demonstration were really exquisite and bore great significance.

The people of (Housh Eissa) held a poetic evening for the poet on the same day.

The poet started the evening with his poem “Min Shorfaty Fil Qãhira” (From My Balcony in Cairo); he then recited some poems of his new collection “Hoznon Mortajal” (Improvised Sorrow). The poet ended the evening by reciting some of his famous poems at the request of the audience.
