The European Parliament Hosts Dr. Moataz Al-Fegiri to Discuss Transnational Repression and the Case of Poet Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al-Qaradawi
In a special session held during the European Parliament events, Dr. Moataz Al-Fegiri, Vice President of the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network and Head of the Egyptian Platform for Human Rights, appeared to address crucial human rights issues. During the session, Dr. Moataz discussed the phenomenon of transnational repression, emphasizing the need to confront violations committed against individuals in the context of conflicts and cross-border disputes.
In this context, Dr. Moataz referred to the case of poet Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, who is currently subjected to enforced disappearance in the UAE after being abducted from Lebanon. He stated that this case is merely an example of the grave violations faced by human rights in several regions, calling on the international community and relevant authorities to intervene immediately to uncover the circumstances and provide support to the victims.
Dr. Moataz also highlighted the importance of international cooperation to address such practices, stressing the need to adopt effective mechanisms that ensure the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, and achieve justice for the victims.
These statements serve as an urgent call to the human rights and freedoms community at the European and international levels to enhance monitoring and accountability in the face of cross-border violations, and to strive for an environment that respects human dignity everywhere.
